Plaza de San Francisco
& City Hall

Seville's civic centre since the Middle Ages. The Plateresque façade of the City Hall is one of the most refined works of the Spanish Renaissance. This square has been the stage for medieval markets and events that have shaped the city's history.

Stop 3

Gate of
Forgiveness

The original entrance to the cathedral, built over the gateway of the former Almohad mosque. Its name comes from the tradition that criminals who managed to reach it would come under the protection of the Church. A threshold steeped in history and legend.

Stop 4

The
Giralda

Seville's symbol has over eight hundred years of history. It began as an Almohad minaret in the 12th century, was transformed into a Christian bell tower after the Reconquista and today crowns the world's largest Gothic cathedral. Every era left its mark on it.

Stop 5

Plaza del
Triunfo

The only place in the world from which three UNESCO World Heritage monuments can be seen at once: the Cathedral, the Royal Alcazar and the General Archive of the Indies. The square owes its name to the 1755 Lisbon earthquake, which devastated much of Seville but spared this corner.

Stop 6

Hotel
Alfonso XIII

Seville's most iconic hotel, built on the orders of King Alfonso XIII to accommodate guests of the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition. Its Regionalist architecture, interior courtyards and history make it a monument in its own right, far beyond being a luxury hotel.

Stop 7

Royal Tobacco Factory
& University

Spain's largest civil building in the 18th century was for over a hundred years the world's largest tobacco factory, where thousands of female workers were employed. Today it is the Rectorate of the University of Seville. Within its walls was born the character of Carmen, Bizet's opera.

Plaza de
España

The perfect finale. Built for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition, the Plaza de España is one of the most spectacular architectural ensembles in Europe: a 200-metre semicircle, a canal with rowing boats, ceramic tilework featuring the maps of every Spanish province.
